About Me:
Hello, my name is Johanna Lopez and I am continuing my journey as an educator here at Olive Middle School. I have been an educator for 12 years. A good portion of those 12 years were spent as a high school science teacher and counselor. Now I am proud to say that I am serving the Baldwin Park Community at Olive Middle School. Going from 6th and 8th grade science teacher to counselor is an exciting change for me. This year my goal is to get to know the strengths of each of our students and building on that to help motivate, encourage and instill hope in our students. I am now going on my third year at Olive, where I am able to help students with:
- Promoting positive attitudes among students towards self, family, peers and community
- Assisting students in learning how school performance relates to future opportunities
- Working with students, parent and school staff to identify learning and needs
- Helping students to recognize and make the best of their abilities
- Coordinating referrals to outside agencies
- Developing student career awareness
I am proud to say that I am a product of immigrant parents who grounded me with values about good work ethic, humility, and appreciation. I took those values and earned a Bachelor's degree in science from Mount St. Mary's University and furthered my education earning a Masters degree from California State University of Los Angeles. I share this because I believe each and everyone of our students has the potential to reach their highest dreams despite the circumstance. I am eager to get to know our students and help them realize their true potential.
Hola, mi nombre es Johanna Lopez y continúo mi viaje como educadora aquí en Olive Middle School. He sido educadora por 12 años. Una buena parte de esos 12 años los pasó como maestra de ciencias y consejera de la escuela secundaria. Ahora me enorgullece decir que estoy sirviendo a la comunidad de Baldwin Park como la Consejera Académica en Olive Middle School. Pasar de maestra de ciencias a consejera es un cambio emocionante para mí. Este año, mi objetivo es conocer las fortalezas de cada uno de nuestros estudiantes y usar esas fortalezas para ayudar a motivar, alentar e infundir esperanza en nuestros estudiantes. Este es mi tercer año en Olive y espero ayudar a los estudiantes con:
- Promover actitudes positivas entre los estudiantes hacia uno mismo, la familia, los compañeros y la comunidad.
- Ayudar a los estudiantes a aprender cómo se relaciona el rendimiento escolar con las oportunidades futuras.
- Trabajar con estudiantes, padres y personal escolar para identificar el aprendizaje y las necesidades.
- Ayudar a los estudiantes a reconocer y aprovechar al máximo sus habilidades.
- Coordinación de referencias a agencias externas.
- Desarrollar la conciencia profesional de los estudiantes.
Me enorgullece decir que soy producto de padres inmigrantes que brindaron un gran ejemplo de ética, humildad y valores de trabajo duro. Tomé estos ejemplos y obtuve una licenciatura en ciencias en la Universidad Mount St. Mary's y amplié mi educación en la Universidad Estatal de California en Los Ángeles, donde obtuve una Maestría en Consejeria Escolar. Comparto esto porque sé que todos y cada uno de nuestros estudiantes tienen potencial para alcanzar sus metas más altas a pesar de las circunstancias. Estoy bien imocianada para trabajar con nuestros estudiantes.
