Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
I hope you have all had a very restful summer. We have a great year planned for you. This year’s theme is “Every Lancer Connected…” We want all students to have a phenomenal educational experience here at Olive Middle School and that starts with ensuring all students feel connected.
We have some changes to our staff this school year. With the retirement of Assistant Principal Humble, our new Assistant Principal is Mr. Palacios. He is no stranger to administration, as he has previously served as Dean of Students in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Taking his place as Counselor is Mrs. Lopez (formerly our Science Teacher). Before arriving to Olive Middle School, she served as Counselor in the Los Angeles Unified School District as well. Both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to their new positions and we are lucky to have them at Olive Middle School.
This year all students will be issued a Chromebook to use throughout the day. They will no longer share Chromebooks with 5 or 6 other students. I am pleased to say we are the first school in the district to cross into the “One-to-One” realm.
We will continue to forge ahead in educating our students in their post-secondary options. All eighth grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 in October and all eighth grade students will have the opportunity to set foot on a college campus this year as well.
Olive Middle School has been in session for 50 years now. Please mark your calendars – we are set to celebrate on Saturday, October 26. Leading up to the celebration, we will engage in a community project to beautify our campus. Please stay tuned for more details…
It’s going to be a great year!
